One heated room, one simple idea
In 2014, Aashrita Kamath rented a single room above a coffee roaster on Haywood Road, bought a space heater and a stack of secondhand mats, and taught a 6am flow to four people — two of whom still practice with us today.
She had trained for years in India and the States and kept noticing the same thing: studios that made newcomers feel behind. Lantern & Lotus was her answer — a room where the teacher adjusts to the student, never the reverse, and where the hardest pose is simply walking in the first time.
Twelve years on, that first room has grown into three studios, a tea bar and a licensed bodywork suite — but the 6am regulars still get a wave by name.
Meet the TeachersFour things we won’t compromise on
Everybody, every body
Every class is built for real bodies — stiff, strong, pregnant, injured, nervous. Modifications are offered, never an afterthought.
Breath before shapes
We care more about how you breathe than how deep you fold. The pose is just the doorway; the calm is the point.
A real community
We keep classes small enough to learn your name, your injuries and how your week is going. You belong here from day one.
Honest, unhurried
No contracts you can’t cancel, no shame, no spiritual theatre. Just steady, well-cued practice you can actually keep.
Designed to slow your shoulders down
Set in a restored 1920s storefront, the studio is full of west-facing light, hanging plants and reclaimed oak floors. Leave the week at the door — everything you need is already inside.
- Three practice rooms: a heated studio, a flow room and a quiet restorative space

“I don’t need you to touch your toes. I need you to leave a little lighter than you came in. If we manage that, we’ve done the job.”
